The Foundation Olmec Claro Doble Corona originates from a collaboration between Nicaraguan tobacco and Mexico's San Andrés Valley. Created by Foundation Cigars founder Nick Melillo, this 7" x 54 cigar uses a Mexican San Andrés Claro wrapper aged three years in bales. The blend combines a Mexican binder with Nicaraguan filler tobaccos, reflecting historical cultivation practices of the Olmec civilization in the region from 1600-400 BCE.
Wrapper & Filler Composition
The Claro wrapper delivers mild sweetness through its golden-brown leaf, grown in volcanic soil. Nicaraguan fillers from Estelí and Jalapa valleys provide core flavors, supported by a Mexican binder ensuring combustion consistency. Tobacco leaves undergo a three-year bale-aging process prior to rolling.
Flavor Development
- Initial Notes: Cream and nutmeg emerge upon lighting
- Mid-Session: Cedar and leather tones develop
- Final Third: Subtle white pepper spice surfaces
Construction & Performance
The Olmec Claro Doble Corona maintains a tight roll structure with minimal touch-ups required. Smoke output measures medium density, with a 90-minute average burn time. Ash forms in solid, light-gray segments holding beyond one inch.
