The Padrón Serie 1926 No. 9 Maduro features a 5 1/4" x 56 box-pressed format with a dark, oily Maduro wrapper. This Nicaraguan puro uses aged binder and filler tobaccos from the company's Estelí factory, undergoing minimum five-year aging. The cigar demonstrates flawless construction with consistent burn characteristics and dense ash formation.
Flavor Profile & Performance
This full-bodied cigar delivers dominant notes of bittersweet chocolate and roasted coffee beans, transitioning into secondary flavors of toasted nuts and black cherry. Earthy undertones and black pepper spice appear in the final third, supported by a lingering finish that maintains flavor presence between puffs.
Production & Legacy
Handcrafted under supervision of José Orlando Padrón and his family, the Serie 1926 commemorates the patriarch's birth year. First released in 2002 to mark José Orlando's 76th birthday, these cigars undergo extended aging compared to Padrón's 1964 Anniversary Series. The 80 Years vitola extension launched in late 2017 celebrates the brand's milestones.
Industry Recognition
- 97-point rating from Cigar Aficionado (highest recent-production score at time of review)
- Two-time winner of #1 Cigar of the Year designation
- Consistent Top 25 rankings across multiple vintages
Production remains capped at approximately 5 million annual cigars across all Padrón lines to maintain quality standards. The Serie 1926 uses higher priming tobaccos and extended fermentation periods compared to core line offerings, resulting in fuller body and complexity.
