Description

The Foundation Olmec Claro Corona Gorda originates from a blend inspired by the San Andrés tobacco region in Mexico. Created by Foundation Cigars founder Nick Melillo, the line honors both the Olmec civilization (1600–400 BCE) and their historical cultivation of tobacco. The cigar features a Mexican San Andrés wrapper aged for three years, paired with a Nicaraguan binder and filler tobaccos. This aging process enhances the wrapper’s flavor development while maintaining structural integrity.

Measuring 5.5 inches in length with a 48-ring gauge, the Olmec Claro Corona Gorda utilizes a light, oily San Andrés wrapper that contributes to its combustion consistency. The blend combines Nicaraguan and Mexican fillers with a Mexican binder, creating a medium-bodied profile. Initial flavors present earth and nutmeg, transitioning into woodiness and mild spice as the cigar progresses. Secondary notes include cinnamon and cedar, balanced by underlying creaminess.

  • Wrapper: Mexican San Andrés (three-year aged)
  • Binder: Nicaraguan
  • Filler: Nicaraguan and Mexican tobaccos

The Foundation Olmec Claro Corona Gorda’s draw and burn qualities make it a suitable choice for pairing with whiskey or coffee. Its flavor progression reflects the integration of Mexican and Nicaraguan tobacco traditions, emphasizing earth-forward characteristics without overwhelming intensity. The design acknowledges historical Olmec agricultural practices while utilizing modern aging techniques for wrapper leaf optimization.
