When it comes to the actual experience of smoking Dan Tobacco 2001, different smokers have different opinions. One smoker purchased it on Ebay a few years ago. After rehydrating and cellaring it, they found it pleasant with a nice room note and mild flavor. The Irish Creme and Vanilla could be tasted when sipped slowly, though it burned a little hot. Another aspect is that it has a tremendous room note and good appearance, but the taste was too powerful and the tobacco too gooey for some, requiring too much attention with not enough reward.
The CAO - imported version comes in a 3.5 - oz tin with a wintertime village scene. It has notes of vanilla, liqueur, and syrup. The tobacco is in a fat ribbon cut with mostly light brown, a little darker brown, and black leaves. Some chunks need rubbing and some match - sized stems need removing. It burns moderately with few relights, has mild strength and nicotine, and the flavoring is medium with notes of liqueur, creamy, and vanilla. The taste is mild and inconsistent, with various notes, and the flavoring leads while Burley and Cavendish support, and Virginias support from the rear. The room note is very pleasant, and the aftertaste is okay.
Some smokers like the big pieces of the leaf as it doesn't burn the tongue and has a mild smoke. However, others think it has really bad casings and would not recommend it for a pleasant Christmas experience.
