Released in 1994 to commemorate Padrón’s 30th anniversary, the Padrón 1964 Anniversary Series Torpedo Natural features Nicaraguan-grown Cuban-seed tobaccos aged for four years. The 6" x 52 box-pressed torpedo shape pays homage to traditional Cuban cigar craftsmanship, a design choice implemented by founder José Orlando Padrón.
Rated 93 by Cigar Aficionado and named 2021 Cigar of the Year, this blend utilizes a sun-grown natural wrapper. The aging process focuses on achieving flavor balance rather than arbitrary timelines, with tobaccos selected for optimal combustion properties.
Construction specifications:
- Box-pressed format for consistent airflow
- Nicaraguan filler and binder tobaccos
- Four-year aged natural wrapper leaf
Flavor progression begins with cocoa and roasted coffee notes, transitioning to earthy undertones with intermittent sweetness reminiscent of caramel. Secondary characteristics include cedar wood accents and subtle nuttiness, supported by combustion properties that maintain stable temperature throughout the smoking session.
The box-press technique creates defined edges while allowing gradual wrapper expansion. This design contributes to the cigar’s even burn line and ash retention capabilities, requiring minimal corrections during consumption. Draw resistance measures within optimal parameters for torpedo vitolas.
