The Foundation Charter Oak CT Broadleaf Toro cigar honors the legacy of Connecticut tobacco cultivation. Developed as a tribute to Nicholas Melillo’s grandfather – a post-WWII Winchester Repeating Arms factory worker who exclusively smoked Connecticut Broadleaf cigars – this 6" x 52 Toro features a dark Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro wrapper with visible oil content. The construction combines a Habano Nicaraguan binder with fully Nicaraguan filler tobaccos.
- Wrapper: Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro
- Binder: Habano Nicaraguan
- Filler: Nicaraguan (Estelí and Jalapa regions)
Initial flavors present earthy tones and natural sweetness from the Broadleaf wrapper, transitioning to cocoa and roasted coffee notes. The Nicaraguan components introduce subtle pepper spice and woody undertones, balanced by creamy textures. Combustion characteristics include consistent ash formation and steady burn line maintenance throughout the 90-minute smoking duration.
Strength progression develops from medium to full-bodied intensity, with flavor layers revealing cinnamon nuances and leather accents in the final third. The cigar’s open draw and 52-ring gauge accommodate smooth airflow, making it suitable for both afternoon sessions and post-dinner occasions. This box-pressed format showcases Foundation Cigar Company’s emphasis on traditional blending techniques with Nicaraguan and Connecticut-grown tobaccos.
