The Cohiba Siglo I Cigar debuted in 1992 as part of the Siglo series, commemorating the 500th anniversary of Christopher Columbus’s arrival in the Americas. The brand name pays homage to the indigenous Taíno term for tobacco. Originally reserved for Cuban officials and diplomatic gifts, Cohiba transitioned to commercial availability while retaining its association with premium craftsmanship. Measuring 4.3 inches in length with a 42-ring gauge, this Petit Corona utilizes tobaccos from the Vuelta Abajo region, known for their quality and aging potential.
The Cohiba Siglo I opens with creamy textures and subtle sweetness, progressing into flavors of roasted coffee beans and cocoa. Mid-profile notes include earth and cedar, balanced by a medium-strength tobacco core. The final third introduces faint leather undertones without overpowering the palate. Its compact size delivers a 45-minute smoking experience, featuring a consistent burn and even ash formation due to tightly packed filler leaves.
Construction follows traditional Cuban methods, with a triple-secured cap and seamless wrapper application. The cigar’s draw resistance aligns with industry standards for hand-rolled Coronas, requiring no relights when stored at 65-68% humidity. While milder than other Cohiba lines like Behike, the Siglo I maintains complexity through its blend of seco and ligero leaves from San Juan y Martínez farms.
