This cigar gained commercial availability in Spain by 1982, initially offered in three vitolas. The Cohiba Robusto was introduced in 1989 during the brand's global launch, marking it as the thickest cigar in Cohiba's lineup at the time.

Measuring 124 mm in length with a 50 ring gauge, the Cohiba Robusto Cigar features a blend of aged tobaccos from Cuba's Vuelta Abajo region. Its construction includes a tripa (filler), capote (binder), and capa (wrapper) sourced from proprietary farms. The 1989 release established the Robusto as a flagship size, complementing Cohiba's earlier offerings like the Lancero and Corona Especiales.
